The annual event was hosted by Beach Ambassadors, a grassroots effort led by Hampton Roads men and women with the ultimate goal of supporting local,Hampton Roads-based charitable organizations through social and sporting events.
The event this year again raised money for Norfolk-based St. Mary’s Home. St. Mary’s Home is a special place full of love and laughter, where children and adults with severe disabilities from all across Virginia live, play, go to school and receive complex, professional, around-the-clock care in a nurturing, comfortable environment. Seventy percent of the proceeds will go directly to St. Mary’s Home. The winning breweries from each category will get to choose a charity of their choice for the remaining thirty percent of the proceeds.
The 2015 Battle of the Beers events raised nearly $11,000 for St. Mary’s Home and $2,500 for the Blocker YMCA and Child Development Resources charitable organizations. O’Connor brewing company won in the IPA category, Alewerks Brewing Company won in the Seasonal Category and Big Ugly Brewing Company won in the People’s Choice Category.
