757 Battle of the Beers RESCHEDULED to October 20, 2018 at Camp Pendleton in Virginia Beach

Hampton Roads breweries (and one cider maker) will be participating in the 6th Annual 757 Battle of the Beers presented by Beach Ambassadors, an event that will benefit multiple Hampton Roads-based charities.  The event was to be held at Camp Pendleton in Virginia Beach on September 15, 2018, from 1pm to 6:30pm but will now take place on October 20, 2018 (same times/location) due to expected severe weather from Hurricane Florence.  “There is just no way to guarantee everyone’s safety in any of the projected weather scenarios” said Shawn Fischer, Event Chair.

All previous tickets purchased for the September 15 date will be honored for the new date of October 20, 2018.  While there are no refunds due to the charity nature of the event, tickets are transferrable.  Each barcoded ticket will be allowed for one entry regardless of the name on it.  In addition, all discounts available online and in participating brewer’s taprooms will continue.  Entertainment and Food Trucks will be re-announced in the coming weeks.

During the event, ticket holders can receive samples of over 60 unique beers from the 28 breweries. Tasters will vote on their favorite overall beer to help determine the “People’s Choice” winner. Submitted beers will also be judged by Brewer-Judges to help determine the “Brewer’s Choice.”  In an event to be held concurrently, Brewer Teams will compete in a series of entertaining and competitive events as part of the 2nd annual “757 Battle of the Brewers” presented in partnership with Backyard Sports Club.

General admission also includes a food voucher that can be exchanged for a meal from one of up to 8 local food trucks, a souvenir glass, and live music from one of Hampton Roads’ favorite live acts, The Jesse Chong Band and one more band yet to be announced. Other festival attractions include cornhole games, multi-sized beer pong, and a silent auction that also benefits the local charities.

Breweries returning to the 757 Battle of the Beers include Alewerks Brewing Company (Williamsburg), Back Bay Brewing Company (Virginia Beach), Bearded Bird Brewing Company (Norfolk), BenchTop Brewing Company (Norfolk), Big Ugly Brewing Company (Chesapeake), Bold Mariner Brewing Company (Norfolk), Bull Island Brewing Company (Hampton), Coelacanth Brewing Company (Norfolk), Commonwealth Brewing Company (Virginia Beach), Deadline Brewing Project (Virginia Beach), Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant (Virginia Beach), Home Republic (Virginia Beach), MoMac Brewing Company (Portsmouth), O’Connor Brewing Company (Norfolk), The Oozlefinch Craft Brewery (Fort Monroe), Pleasure House Brewing Company (Virginia Beach), Reaver Beach Brewing Company (Virginia Beach), Rip Rap Brewing Company (Norfolk), Smartmouth Brewing Company (Norfolk), St. George Brewing Company (Hampton), Tradition Brewing Company (Newport News), Virginia Beer Company (Williamsburg), Wasserhund Brewing Company (Virginia Beach), and Young Veterans Brewing Company (Virginia Beach).

For the first time, the cider category will be represented in the event.  Samples from Sly Clyde Ciderworks (Hampton) will be available as a part of all admissions.

The 757 Battle of the Beers event is the only craft beer festival that is exclusive to Hampton Roads’ Brewers and is a 2-time winner of the “Best Beer Festival” category in Veer Magazine’s Golden Tap Awards.  Brewers are encouraged to bring any recipe, previously released to the public or not, that they think will win the battle in each category.

The event is the brainchild of Beach Ambassadors, a nonprofit grassroots effort led by Hampton Roads men and women with the ultimate goal of supporting local charitable organizations through social and sporting events. This year’s event will again be raising money for Norfolk-based nonprofit, St. Mary’s Home.  St. Mary’s Home is a special place full of love and laughter, where children and adults with severe disabilities from all across Virginia live, play, go to school and receive complex, professional, around-the-clock care in a nurturing, comfortable environment. Fifty percent of the event proceeds will go directly to St. Mary’s Home. The remaining fifty percent of the proceeds is split between the winning brewers’ chosen local charities.  Last year’s 757 Battle of the Beers events raised over $30,000 and awarded charities including UDT Seal Association, Fort Monroe Foundation, and Leukemia/Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night.

Tickets are $60 at the door and discounts are available online at http://www.757BattleoftheBeers.com up until October 19th. VIP Tickets are sold out. You must be 21 years or older to gain entry and valid ID is required to enter the base and the event. Designated Driver/Non-Drinking Tickets are also available online and at the door.
